Here are six tracks from the Beatles' Mono Masters 3-LP set included in The Beatles In Mono box released in 2014.
When the Beatles started recording in the early 60s, the mono mixes were the ones they concentrated on, and personally supervised. The early stereo mixes of their songs were quite crude - especially by today's standards, and it's the mono versions of their earlier recordings that are regarded as definitive.
The policy on releases was not to issue album tracks as singles (in the UK), so the retrospective compilations of the singles (the Past Masters CDs, and this Mono Masters LP collection) are useful in presenting the impressive array of music that was never included on the albums.
This Boy, She's A Woman, Yes It Is, and The Inner Light are all 'B' sides. Long Tall Sally - the Little Richard rock'n'roll number - was from the EP of the same name, and Hey Bulldog was one of the original songs written for the Yellow Submarine album, with the true mono mix (not the previously issued fold-down from stereo) being released on LP in the Mono Masters collection for the first time on vinyl.
1. This Boy - the 'B' side of I Want To Hold Your Hand (November 1963)
2. Long Tall Sally - the EP was released in June 1964
3. She's A Woman - the 'B' side of I Feel Fine (October 1964)
4. Yes It Is - the 'B' side of Ticket to Ride (April 1965)
5. The Inner Light - the 'B' side of Lady Madonna (March 1968). The instrumental tracks were recorded in EMI's Bombay studio in January 1968.
6. Hey Bulldog - from the soundtrack to the animated film Yellow Submarine (January 1969)
