Amadou & Mariam - Dimanche À Bamako

This 2004 album from the blind Malian duo Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia broke new ground for them stemming from their collaboration with Manu Chao, as producer and occasional vocalist (as on Sénégal Fast Food). The album won the 2006 BBC World Music Award and was Grammy nominated for the 2006 Best Contemporary World Music Album.

Chao takes the couple's Malian blues style and gives it a pop makeover with plenty of local sounds to add colour and atmosphere.

I first had this album on CD many years ago - but this suffered greatly from the "loudness wars" feature of rough, distorted sound, so it was a relief to find the sound a lot better on the more recent LP issue. The double album came with a CD (that I admit I haven't played - though a comparison with the earlier CD issue might be interesting), and I've scanned the lyrics of the songs from side B of the vinyl from the CD booklet.

Here we have Sénégal Fast Food, Artistiya, La Fête Au Village, Camions Sauvages. Enjoy!
