Beady Belle is the group name and alter-ego of Norwegian singer-songwriter Beate S. Lech. Right from the first album, Home of 2001- largely recorded in her Oslo flat, the collaboration with Jazzland Recording's owner Bugge Wesseltoft has seen a succession of innovative albums classified variously (and sometimes simultaneously) as nu jazz, future jazz, downtempo, funk, and soul. Whatever the label, the music is involving and varied.
The original Beady Belle band went their own way in 2015, and a year later On My Own was released. Recorded in New York with US jazz musicians, but still with Bugge on keyboards and as producer, the new album has been described by Beate:
"The whole On my own album is based on one theme. This theme is “differentness”. Being different. Not following the flow. Standing alone. Standing on the outside not knowing quite how to get in. You never really fit where you're supposed to belong. You're incompatible... I try to describe different aspects of such a state of affairs: the painful, the mysterious and the joyful. "
From On My Own, the two tracks here are Bury and Almost.
