It was fitting that Blue Planet II, an epic documentary series about life in the world's oceans should have an epic score, and who better than the talented, and very successful Hollywood film composer Hans Zimmer and his co-composers in Bleeding Fingers Music to provide it?
The BBC website has a detailed Q&A with the composers that explains the background to their music and the processes behind it.
The whole soundtrack album is available on YouTube, but I wanted to do a track from the limited edition records - pressed appropriately enough on blue vinyl. Portuguese Man Of War is one of my favourite pieces. This terrifying "jelly-fish on steroids" creature adorns the rear of the vinyl gatefold sleeve. I've reproduced below some of the splendid images that adorn the gatefold sleeve.
Cartridge: Sumiko Blue Point Special EVO III high output moving coil
Phono amp: Graham Slee Accession
Turntable: Yamaha PX-3 direct drive turntable
