I've posted recordings before featuring the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, but this time it's the Syd Lawrence Concert Orchestra. This 1975 recording adds a string section to the normal sax/brass/percussion sections and features music from the 1930s.
The sleeve notes below give the background to the album, entitled Vol.1 - though I can find no evidence that a Volume 2 was ever produced. As the notes to the album say - "There are some passages where the strings have the spotlight but, in the main. they have been used for an orchestral massed effect to produce a cushion of lush and svelte sounds resulting in music of warmth and romanticism". Oh, a French Horn creeps in too.
Here are the opening three tracks on side 1:
1. The Very Thought Of You
2. When I Take My Sugar To Tea
3. Moonlight Serenade
Cartridge: Ortofon X1-MCP
Phono amp: Graham Slee Accession
Turntable: Sony PS-X600 Biotracer
