Academy and Grammy award winning composer/producer/pianist Dave Grusin's 13th album as leader was Mountain Dance (1979).
I first came across the title track when it was used as a theme tune for a BBC World Service radio programme, and it led me to both this album and GRP Records in general. Formed by Dave Grusin with Larry Rosen, Grusin-Rosen Productions went from being an independent label, to a jazz sub-label within Arista Records, and again back to an independent label. The whole story of GRP is to be found on The Dave Grusin Archive website, which is a mine of information that I can thoroughly recommend visiting.

Used by the BBC World Service as the theme to its arts programme Meridian.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes - it was Meridian. This is where I first heard the track - many. many years ago, but couldn't remember the programme name.
