Neil Ardley - A Symphony Of Amaranths

This 1971 album from pianist/composer/conductor/writer Neil Ardley contains a suite dedicated to Duke Ellington and Gil Evans, both masters of orchestral jazz. Information about A Symphony Of Amaranths, which takes up side one of the album, can be found on Neil Ardley's website, and in the notes accompanying this record which are reproduced below.

Ardley, who died in 2004 aged 66, had a parallel career to his musical one, being a writer of information books, largely aimed at young people, and, as noted in this obituary, he had written over a hundred books selling around ten million copies.

A Symphony Of Amaranths has the distinction of being the first jazz recording to receive a British Arts Council Award.
