The Quintet for Clarinet and String Quartet by Sir Arthur Bliss was composed in 1931 and published the year after. Considered to be one of Bliss's finest works, it comprises of four movements. Bliss wrote his own programme note for the quintet, which is quoted on the notes to this 1963 recording by Gervase de Peyer and the Melos Ensemble of London.
For those wishing a more comprehensive view of the quintet, The Musical Times (May 1933) carried a four page analysis by Eric Blom. This is available here. (You need to register - for free - to gain access).
