Beethoven - Symphony No.8


'One of the shortest, weirdest, but most compelling symphonies of the 19th century.' This is how Tom Service's guide to Beethoven's 8th Symphony is subtitled. 

Beethoven had begun his 8th Symphony in 1812, straight after completing the 7th, and it was first performed in Vienna in February 1814 - at a concert that also included 7th Symphony. The 8th wasn't greeted with much enthusiasm, which angered Beethoven as he considered the work much better than the 7th.
