Saxophonist Lee Konitz (1927-2020) - who died with Covid19-related complications - was an exponent of the cool jazz movement who liked improvising in long lines and was an influence on subsequent players such as Paul Desmond and Art Pepper. Inspired by Benny Goodman, Konitz initially played clarinet before taking up tenor, then alto sax. A member of Miles Davis's Birth of the Cool movement, Konitz toured with the Stan Kenton Orchestra and played with all the leading jazz musicians of the day.
Motion - one of Konitz's finest albums - was a 1961 trio recording for Verve with bass player Sonny Dallas and drummer Elvin Jones.
