The Kronos Quartet must have the most diverse repertoire of any contemporary string quartet. They have a long record in commissioning new works from composers around the world from many different genres. I featured their collaboration with Trio Da Kali from Mali some time ago and this 1992 album, Pieces Of Africa, continues their African adventures by commissioning pieces from a number of African musicians.
The track featured here comes from Ghanaian drummer Obo Addy. Addy moved from Ghana to the UK and toured Europe before settling in the US, teaching in Oregon.
