Stravinsky - Symphony of Psalms

Igor Stravinsky was a giant of 20th Century music and his compositions had a stylistic diversity as the century progressed. Between his early "Russian" period and the later "Serial" period was "Neo-classical" - and one work from this period that proved to be popular was his choral symphony Symphony of Psalms.

Dating from 1930, the piece was commissioned by Serge Koussevitzky for the 50th anniversary of the Boston Symphony Orchestra . However the premiere was in Brussels conducted by Ernest Ansermet (who conducted this 1961 recording in Geneva), six days before the US premiere in Boston.

Apart from the album sleeve notes below, a guide to the music can be found here.
