The music of Lennox Berkeley has featured here before, with his Divertimento from 1943, the Guitar Concerto of 1974 with Julian Bream, and a short choral work from 1960.
The Second Symphony dates from 1956 and was premiered by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Andrzej Panufnik. In 1976 Berkeley made some revisions, and this recording was made shortly afterwards, with the composer providing the sleeve notes - see the scan below.
