Along with the Fifth Symphony, the First Symphony of Sergei Prokofiev is one of his most popular works. Finished in 1917, Prokofiev gave it the nickname "Classical" after his intention to channel the styles of the classical period, and in particular the music of Mozart and Haydn, into his own compositional process.
A nicely detailed examination of the music can be found on this page by tiboresque.
