Poulenc - Concert Champêtre For Harpsichord & Orchestra

Parisian-born Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) was a composer associated with Les Six - a group of composers whose music was seen as a reaction to the styles of Richard Wagner, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel - and Romanticism in general - by invoking neoclassical sensibilities.

Poulenc's Concert Champêtre for harpsichord and orchestra was written for Wanda Landowska, the Polish musician who did much to revive interest in the harpsichord in the first part of the 20th century. Landowska played at the premiere of the work in 1929, under Pierre Monteux.

The album sleeve notes for this recording - click on the scan below - give a good description of the music.
