Kevin Volans - White Man Sleeps

The award-winning Kronos Quartet has appeared here before - both times in collaboration with African artists. The string quartet, based in San Francisco, was founded in 1973 by violinist David Harrington who remains a member although many other musicians have been part of the group over the  years. They are renowned for their collaboration with artists from outside the classical world and have an extensive discography.

The 1992 album Pieces of Africa contains a string quartet by South African (now Irish) composer Kevin Volans entitled White Man Sleeps, and comments about this from the album sleeve appear below.
