British composer and author Constant Lambert (1905-1951) has only appeared here once before - with his Concerto for Piano and Nine Players. Although known these days as much for his 1934 book Music Ho!, Lambert was also an important figure in English ballet - having been a founding music director of the Royal Ballet, and a composer of ballet scores.
It's his ballet Pomona which is given here. Based on an earlier Divertimento, Pomona received its first performance in Argentina in 1927. The story is based on the legend of Pomona and Vertumnus from Roman mythology, and their story can be explored here. The sleeve notes to this album (click on the image below) indicate how scenes from the story fit with the musical numbers in the ballet.
