This is a 2013 "Back to Black" reissue of a 1955 compilation of two earlier 10" records featuring Charlie Parker, the master of bebop, in a contemplative mood with a backing of a (largely) string orchestra.
At the time of writing Parker's Mercury and Clef 10" records are available as reissues in their original format in a slip case with original artwork and accompanying book.
The 10" release featured on side A has an orchestra conducted by Jimmy Carroll, and features a rhythm section of Stan Freeman (piano), Ray Brown (bass) and Buddy Rich (drums). The oboe soloist is Mitch Miller - who was not only an oboe and cor anglais player but a producer and record industry executive and A&R man with Mercury and Columbia Records.
