Earlier this year I posted Francis Poulenc's Concert Champêtre for Harpsichord and Orchestra, and here is another of his keyboard concertos - this time for 2 pianos.
Poulenc wrote the Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in 1932. Aside from the album sleeve notes (click on the image below), a detailed piece about this concerto can be found here.
Vlastimil Lejsek and his wife Věra Lejsková performed together as a piano duo, and Věra was also a writer and critic. The conductor of this recording, Miloš Konvalinka (1919-2000), studied at the Brno Conservatory and worked as an opera conductor in Göttingen, Germany, before posts in Prague and Košice, finally settling in Olomouc in 1951 where he was deputy director of the Moravian Philharmonic. From 1976 to 1979 he was conductor and head of the National Theatre Opera in Prague.
