Is It A Crime opened Sade's second album, Promise, released in 1985. It has all the hallmarks of a typical Sade number - cool, laid-back, jazzy arrangement and Sade's phenomenal voice.
The issue here is a "Best Of" compilation released by Music-On-Vinyl, and the video gives a first outing to another Ortofon moving coil cartridge - a Synergy GM from the unmistakable SPU series. The "stereo pick-up" was released in 1958, and variants, and developments of it have been in Ortofon's line up ever since. Ortofon's website gives a nice potted history of the series.
The name "synergy" seems very appropriate since it performs so well with the SME M2-12-r - a modern variant of the original, 50 year old SME 3009 tonearm which was made with cartridges like the SPU in mind. Add these to the venerable, but improved Lenco drive of the Solid12 and you have an almost vintage record player with 21st century performance.
Cartridge: Ortofon Synergy GM SPU
Phono amp: Graham Slee Accession + Elevator EXP
Turntable: PTP Audio Solid12 + SME M2-12-r tonearm
This may come, this may come as some surprise
But I miss you
I could see through all of your lies
But still I miss you
He takes her love, but it doesn't feel like mine
He tastes her kiss, her kisses are not wine, they're not mine
He takes, but surely she can't give what I'm feeling now
She takes, but surely she doesn't know how
Is it a crime,
Is it a crime,
That I still want you
And I want you to want me too?
My love is wider, wider than Victoria Lake
My love is taller, taller than the Empire State
It dives and it jumps, and it ripples like the deepest ocean
I can't give you more than that. Surely you want me back
Is it a crime,
Is it a crime?
I still want you
And I want you to want me too
My love is wider than Victoria Lake
Taller than the Empire State
It dives and it jumps
I can't give you more than that. Surely you want me back
Is it a crime,
Is it a crime,
That I still want you
And I want you to want me too?
It dives and it jumps
And it ripples like the deepest ocean
Can't give you more than that
Surely you want it back
Tell me
Is it a crime?
