Dusty Springfield - The Look Of Love

The Burt Bacharach/Hal David song The Look Of Love featured in the 1967 James Bond movie Casino Royale, with David Niven as Bond. Sung by Dusty Springfield, it was nominated for Best Song at the 1968 Academy Awards, and the sound track album has long been considered an "audiophile" gem.

The recording quality didn't escape the notice of Michael Hobson, whose company Classic Records had been re-issuing "classic" albums on remastered heavyweight vinyl since 1994. Taking Dusty's re-recording (with the sultry saxophone solo) a 12 inch single was issued in 1997 with the song on both sides but at different speeds - 33 1/3 and 45 rpm. Just right for the inquisitive audiophile to "contrast and compare" the merits of both! Needless to say the increased groove velocity of the 45rpm side edged the battle - though the slower speed side was no slouch in the SQ stakes - and this is what we have here: four minutes of classic perfection . . .

The look of love
Is in your eyes
The look your smile can't disguise
The look of love
Is saying so much more
Than just words could ever say
And what my heart has heard
Well it takes my breath away

I can hardly wait to hold you
Feel my arms around you
How long I have waited
Waited just to love you
Now that I have found you

You've got the look of love
It's on your face
A look that time can't erase
Be mine tonight
Let this be just the start
Of so many nights like this
Let's take a lover's vow
And then seal it with a kiss

I can hardly wait to hold you
Feel my arms around you
How long I have waited
Waited just to love you
Now that I have found you
Don't ever go

I can hardly wait to hold you
Feel my arms around you
How long I have waited
Waited just to love you
Now that I have found you
Don't ever go
Don't ever go
I love you so
