Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygène

" . . just another interminable cosmic cruise" - NME's reaction to Oxygène (1976) wasn't unusual, but hindsight is a wonderful thing, and Jean Michel Jarre's third album has become thought of a classic in it's genre.

I don't normally post videos of complete albums, but since Oxygène has tracks that run into each other it seemed better than trying to isolate one or two of the not-very-imaginatively-named pieces. And since 40 minutes of watching a record go round can be akin to watching paint dry I decided to play the ripped wave file back in Adobe Audition and screen record the "spectral frequency display". For this music it's quite instructive as it shows the oscillator sweeps and phase effects quite clearly, as well as the little burbles and whistles in many parts. You can see as well as hear the music. The quiet "bird-like" sounds as the end of the LP sides look like flying birds in a painting (if upside down!).

  1. Hello,
Thank you for this incredible achievement! I love watching the music of my idol thanks to your achievement in spectral analysis.
    It's very interesting.
Please, can you do that with other primary albums of Jean-Michel Jarre? Like Equinox, or Magnetic Fields, ..?
    Thanks and bravo once again!
    Best regards

  5. I watched it a week ago and liked it a lot, but now it isn't available on YouTube anymore and the vimeo link doesn't work either.
