John Ogdon plays Chopin

Frédéric Chopin is a central figure in Romantic piano music. Growing up in Warsaw and living in Paris for many years the influences on his music were both from his native Poland and the French salons. The Polonaises presented here are based on a Polish dance, and are two of Chopin's most well-known pieces. Clicking on the album's rear cover scan, below, will enlarge the excellent sleeve notes.

British pianist John Ogdon came to prominence after becoming joint winner - with Vladimir Ashkenazy - of the 1962 Moscow Tchaikovsky Competition, this being a year after winning the Liszt prize in Budapest.
