Beethoven - Symphony No.5

Arguably the most famous piece of classical music ever composed, Beethoven's 5th Symphony had a less than auspicious premiere in a long concert of Beethoven's music in Vienna on December 22nd 1808. The theatre was cold and the orchestra under-rehearsed. Beethoven not only conducted the premieres of his 5th AND 6th symphonies, he was also the soloist in his 4th Piano Concerto.

Much has been written about this famous symphony, including this guide from Tom Service.

This recording by Otto Klemperer and The Philharmonia (recorded at EMI Abbey Road in 1959) comes from the same cycle as the 7th Symphony I posted a couple of months ago, but this time it's a stereo version.
