This 1960 Everest recording unites two of the most important South American composers of the 20th Century - Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos and Argentinian Alberto Ginastera.
From the album cover you could be forgiven in thinking that most of music is from Villa-Lobos, but of the four sides of this 45rpm reissue only the first has his music, that being the popular Toccata movement from his 1930 suite Bachianas Brasileiras No.2 commonly known as The Little Train of the Caipira. A depiction of a little local steam train chuffing and wheezing it's way through the countryside, the work is a more rural take on Arthur Honegger's Pacific 231 of 1923.
The more substantial music on this album is the two ballet suites from Ginastera - Panambi dates from 1934-7 and Estancia from 1941. The sleeve notes to the album, reproduced below, describe the music.
