Donald Byrd - Chant

This 1961 Blue Note recording wasn't actually released until 1979, and the tracks here are from the 2019 issue in Blue Note's "Tone Poet" series.

Donald Byrd's trumpet is joined by Pepper Addams' baritone and the piano of Herbie Hancock - the recording made shortly before Hancock joined Miles Davis' group.

Allmusic's short review describe's Chant as having "superior hard bop from the early '60s", and here are the first couple of tracks on side 2 - That's All and Great God.

The Tone Poet gatefold sleeve  - a quality item! - has some session photos - reproduced below, along with the sleeve notes (click to enlarge the scan).
