Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street

Gerry Rafferty's second solo album - City To City - was his most successful, and it contained his biggest solo hit, Baker Street. With its soaring saxophone solo - credited with producing an upturn in the instrument's sales - it has been in such constant play since it's 1978 release that it had earned him an annual £80,000 in royalties.

Session musician Raphael Ravenscroft played the (in)famous sax solo, which has become the subject of conflicting stories over it's authorship and the source of urban myths. What it not disputed is the impact the solo had on the record-buying public
