Around three months ago I posted Bartók's Miraculous Mandarin from this splendid disc by Seiji Ozawa and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and here is the coupling - an equally spell-binding performance of Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta.
First performed by Paul Sacher and the Basle Chamber Orchestra in 1937, this is perhaps the best known work by Bartók after his Concerto for Orchestra. The Houston Symphony Orchestra's website has this great commentary on the work.
