This might be one of Jimmy Smith's more commercial outings, but the combination of his funky organ with a big band (with French Horns and a tuba but minus saxes) and Lalo Schifrin's inspired arrangements make this a most enjoyable listen. Side One has a couple of tracks from the 1964 film Joy House (known as The Love Cage in the UK and Les Félins in France) with Alain Delon and Jane Fonda. After Basin Street Blues, there's the main theme from The Carpetbaggers - another 1964 film, this one starring George Peppard and Alan Ladd. This last track maybe better known to UK TV viewers over a certain age as the theme used for the long running BBC business and financial affairs show The Money Programme. (Here's the programme intro.)
