Second albums are always a problem - do you branch out with something new or just repeat what was a success the first time round? For Dire Straits, with the rushed release of Communiqué only nine months after their 1978 hit self-titled debut, it was more of the same - but with less memorable songs. Not that they're bad songs, but nothing stands out. Lady Writer attempts to be this album's Sultans Of Swing, but the move from Basing Street Studios in London to Compass Point Studios in Nassau sees the group maybe having a good time in the Caribbean at the expense of honing the songs.
Here are the opening two songs of side two - Lady Writer and Angel of Mercy.
Cartridge: Yamaha MC-1x
Phono amp: Graham Slee Accession MC
Turntable: CTC Classic 301 with SME M2-12R
