The Royal Army Medical Corps of the British Army in its current form can date back to the aftermath of the Crimean War, and it continued developing its services during the Boer War and 1st World War.
A Staff Band was founded in 1898, but was one of the first bands to go in the army restructuring in 1984.
This 1980 recording was dedicated to the Corps' Victoria Cross recipients. Only three VC recipients have been awarded the medal twice - two of them being from the RAMC; hence the album title Double VCs. From the record here are two marches by American composer and conductor John Philip Sousa - The Thunderer of 1889 and The Liberty Bell of 1893. The Liberty Bell is probably best known to UK listeners as the signature tune used in the TV comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus.
