Bohuslav Martinů's symphonies 3, 4, and 5 have already appeared here, and now here is Symphony No.2.
First performed by the Cleveland Orchestra under Erich Leinsdorf in 1943, the second symphony is Martinů's shortest and has pastoral flavour with some impressionistic touches influenced from his stay in Paris. This performance by Václav Neumann and the Czech Philharmonic was part of the first recorded cycle of all six of Martinů's symphonies, recorded between 1976 and 1978.
