Music and Vinyl: Janáček - String Quartet No. 2

It was back in 2019 that I posted the First String Quartet of Leoš Janáček. That was from a record on the Classics For Pleasure label which was a reissue of the 1963 Czech Supraphon record which we have here now. Janáček's Second String Quartet was, like the First, a commission from the Bohemian String Quartet and was one of his last works - written in the year of his death, 1928, and not receiving its première until a month after his death. The work was inspired by Janáček's long friendship with Kamila Stösslová, a much younger married women with whom he exchanged hundred of letters over the years.
