This 1955 outing for the Clifford Brown / Max Roach quintet was recorded only a year before trumpeter Brown and pianist Richie Powell died in the same car crash - Brown being aged 25, Powell 24. Quite what heights their musical stars may have reached will never be known, but their existing recorded legacy is enough to show their talent.
Here is side 2 of Study In Brown, recorded by Mercury's EmArcy label. The final track - Take The A Train - is complete with train whistles and sees the song coming to rest in the station at the end of its journey.
