Haydn - Piano Sonata In C Hob.XVI:50

 

Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) was one of the most important composers of the Classical Period, and through 104 numbered symphonies, 68 string quartets and 52 keyboard sonatas (among many other works) his developments in musical form and expression paved the way for the age of romanticism in music. 

The C major Piano Sonata XVI:50 was written for and dedicated to Therese Jansen-Bartolozzi c. 1794. Jansen-Bartolozzi subsequently published the sonata in c. 1800 with the title: "A Grand Sonata for the Piano Forte Composed Expressly for and dedicated to Mrs. Bartolozzi by Haydn ... Op. 79 ... London. Printed for, and to be had of the Proprietor 82 Wells Street and of the Publishers J. and H. Caulfield 36 Picadilly."
